    Sale Description:

    This is an
    EXTREMELY RARE
    Iridescent Studio Art Glass
    Modern "
    Scalloped Disc
" Vase that was crafted in Ian Forbes distinctive style, and hand-signed by the artist, in Ontario, Canada circa 1990's.

Ian Forbes started creating eye-catching pieces of glass art in 1984 and although he is no longer blowing glass, the few rare works that he has created during his exciting though short career are unique and impeccably executed.

Forbes has studied under numerous masters including Lino Tagliapietra, has a deep respect for the tradition of vessel making, and has been greatly inspired by the Venetian masters of both past and present.

Now that Ian Forbes has retired from glassmaking, his artistic works continue to grow in acclaim as well as in value.

This very large scalloped iridescent disc vase is an excellent example of the diversity of his work and the only piece that we have been able to locate using this distinctive style... again, making it all the rarer.

This vase has a height of 3 3/4 inches, a diameter of 10 3/4 inches, and weighs in at a hefty 7 pounds 12.8 ounces (unboxed).

This piece has a polished base which bears light to moderate wear on the underside only (not visible unless inverted) and a smooth surface on the remainder of the exterior surfaces
    .

This vase is created from very thick amber art glass overlaid with a layer of swirling iridescent blue, beige, green, maroon, and red glass on the upper exterior, a similar pattern of beige and maroon swirls over the underside exterior, and the base is hand-signed "
    IAN FORBES"
    .

The Upper finish has a rubbed iridescence that is almost similar to seashell or mother of pearl, however it is entirely glass; due to this finish and to the scalloped shaping, there are slight stretch marks and pulls in the finish that are part of the design and entirely intended; they give the piece its natural appearance.

This vase is one of the most impressive pieces that we have ever found from Ian Forbes's Studio and we have never seen another piece of his studio glass using these techniques; this is a very rare piece indeed.

Although Forbes no longer produces glass his distinctive talents will not be lost, as he has won numerous awards for his work and they are included in both private and public collections.

This item has been well cared for in a smoke free and pet free environment, it is in
Excellent Condition without the Original Box.

We have inspected this piece for damages, and unless listed as otherwise, the item is in excellent condition.
